My love for Repurposed & Recycled Art
Stems from my parents love for antiques, rusty relics & definitely my Dads drive to find a purpose for just about everything - especially old tools & all things rusty!Over the years I have travelled to many countries with my husband & we have always taken the less travelled road in search of quirky & unique items. I have always loved the diversity of art in all its forms. I was drawn to art from a young age but never found my calling until my children became teenagers which gave me more time to explore and create. I initially started creating pieces in my shed for family & friends and my art technique grew from there.Rusty tools & metal are the perfect eye candy for me. There is just something about rust that draws me in and the possibility of its use for something artistic is endless.The timber I use in my artwork is locally sourced on the Sunshine Coast. I especially love working with Camphor Laurel as no two pieces are alike and the timber smells amazing. I am happy to use any species of timber and more than happy to accommodate a customer’s request to use a specific timber that has a significant meaning to them.I love the whole process of working with the timber, from selecting the perfect piece for each creation to sanding and preparing the timber for my artwork & right down to the end process when I spray the piece and get to watch the different colours & texture come out of the wood.I personally select the jewellery used in my artwork from local markets, Op shops and from people selling in my local area. In some cases when creating a custom piece for a customer I often utilise some of their own jewellery to help create a piece that is more personal and sentimental to them.The challenge of making a piece that flows drives me. My heart goes into every piece I create, and I absolutely love what I do, and I am thankful every day that I get to do my soul job.
